The problem with making stupid laws....

...is that one day someone will call you out on them.  Today's news which has the makings of such a law has congressional dems trying to mandate liability insurance for all US gun owners.  Yep, the very act of owning a gun makes you dangerous and thus you should carry special insurance according to these d!(kheads.  Of course, this is nothing more than a tax on freedom which is paid to private insurance corporations so that they in turn can kick some of the proceeds back to corrupt liberals in congress.

And every gun owner will see it as exactly that.

So is this the shark jumping moment for gun grabbers?  I think it is too early to tell but I just tried to leave a appropriate voice mail on Maloney's congressional answering machine but of course it was already full.

So hear this Maloney: If this passes then I refuse to comply.  I am not buying gun liability insurance and if anyone comes at me for the $10,000 fine then I will see them in court, and I will be filing a counter suit.  Period.  The insurance requirement is a selective tax and thus a political attack.  It is a clear violation of the 4th because it uses financial means to infringe the rights of gun owners.  Unless you apply this same insurance requirement to everyone who owns a carving knife in their kitchen, something that can also be used to kill, you are singling out gun owners unfairly.  In fact, knives, blunt objects and hands/feet are listed as cause of death for a very significant number of deaths in the USA.

Of course the saying that "figures don't lie but liars can figure" is especially appropriate in this case because while guns can of course be used to commit crimes, they can also be used to prevent them.  In fact, a quick google search will bring up many articles like this one which claims that private firearms stop "crime" 2.5 million time each year.   What I want to know is that by taxing private gun ownership, how many new murders will occur?  How many low income people will have to give up their guns and expose themselves to crime simply because they are intimidated by a 10k fine (which for most of these people is their life savings...)?  Any death that would have been prevented by firearm ownership should count against the murder total attributed to guns.

So make all of the illegal laws you care to, you corrupt liberal CONgress people, but at some point the people will just begin to ignore you and you will lose all relevance to real American society.  You cannot fine all of the like minded gun owners out there the amount of $10,000 without starting a revolution.  So just go ahead with your little liberal plot and see where it gets you.
